Compensation Awarded for Office Accident Caused by Tripping Hazard

A woman was injured at work because of an unsafe floor covering. We acted on her behalf in a personal injury claim and she received compensation.
Unsafe Workplace
Our client worked in an office environment and the carpet was in very poor condition. It was old and completely worn through in places, with parts that had lifted and some sections repaired with tape. Requests had been made by staff in the past for it to be replaced, but no action was taken by management.
As she was walking past one of the desks, our client tripped on a raised part of the carpet and this caused her to fall. She suffered neck and back injuries because of this workplace accident and visited hospital to be treated.
In order to recover our client had to have physiotherapy and some time off work. Until the pain in her back and neck subsided she needed help from family members with things like shopping and housework and she had to pay for prescription medication.
Compensation Claim
The injured employee felt that her accident could have been avoided if her employer had provided a safe work environment. She therefore approached us for help with a compensation claim.
We began a claim against her employer and they admitted that the accident was their fault. We gave evidence of our client’s injuries and expenses and negotiated with the other side for a suitable amount of compensation. Their first offer was not acceptable, but we were able to obtain an increased offer and our client received £8,250 in damages. The dangerous carpet was also replaced.
