Compensation for Victim of Multi-Vehicle Accident

19th September 2012

A woman suffered long-term injuries in a serious road accident when a lorry hit her stationary vehicle. Our specialist personal injury solicitors acted on her behalf in a compensation claim.

Accident on Dual Carriageway

Our client was stationary in a queue of traffic on a dual carriageway, when a 42 tonne lorry collided with the rear of her car. It was travelling at speed, so the impact was very forceful and she was pushed into the vehicles in front of her.

After the accident our client was in a lot of pain because of injuries to her neck, back, and lower legs. She was also extremely distressed, as her passenger was unconscious and it took some time to free them both from the car.

She could not attend work for over a month, could not drive for several months, and had to have treatment from a physiotherapist and chiropractor. Unfortunately however she was left with ongoing neck and back problems. She also suffered flashbacks and developed anxiety and depression due to the traumatic nature of the accident.

Personal Injury Claim

We pursued a personal injury claim on behalf of the injured woman. The lorry driver admitted liability for the accident and we put forward evidence of our client’s injuries, her financial losses and the considerable effect it had on her life.

To help her cover the cost of treatment she needed while the claim was in progress, we arranged for interim payments to be made by the other side. We then negotiated an overall settlement with them.

After rejecting initial, lower offers, we recovered a total amount of damages in excess of £25,000 for our client. This included compensation for her injuries and also reimbursement for expenses she incurred, such as public transport costs when she was unable to drive, care she received and a special mattress to relieve her back pain.
