Electrician Injured at Work is Awarded Compensation

6th March 2009

In a recent case, our specialist personal injury lawyers assisted a man who was injured in an accident at work due to unsafe work procedures.

Injury at Work

The claimant was working at a residential home on behalf of the council. Part of the building was being demolished and his role was to disconnect the electrics.

By the time he arrived to do this however, part of the demolition work had already taken place. Consequently, he injured his thumb on a section of jagged, damaged brickwork as he tried to complete his task. There was a deep wound, which required medical treatment and resulted in residual scarring.

Lack of Safety

The normal procedure for this type of work would be to have the electrics disconnected prior to any demolition taking place, for health and safety reasons. It is very important that work is safely planned and phased to avoid the risk of personal injury to employees.

Our lawyers are experts in workplace injury cases and were instructed to deal with a compensation claim on the injured man’s behalf. The case went to trial and the Judge awarded damages in respect of his injuries.
