Customer Receives Personal Injury Compensation for Accident in Supermarket

10th November 2011

A man was injured in a supermarket accident when a heavy item fell onto his foot because of faulty packaging. Our specialist personal injury lawyers acted on his behalf in a compensation claim.

Accident in Shop

Our client was shopping at a major supermarket when his accident happened. He selected a piece of flat-pack furniture that he wished to purchase and went to lift the box off the shelf. Unfortunately the box was defective and the contents, which were quite large, fell out onto his foot.

This accident caused our client to suffer a fracture and ruptured cartilage in his big toe, for which he was treated at hospital. It took some time for this painful injury to heal and he had to wear a special shoe for around a month.

Although he was able to return to his normal activities after he recovered, it is likely that he will develop an arthritic condition in his toe in the future and surgery will be necessary.

Compensation Claim

The injured customer felt that his accident could have been avoided if the faulty box had not been left out on display. He therefore appointed our lawyers to assist him in a personal injury claim against the supermarket.

We began a claim and the other side failed to put forward any offers of compensation, so we issued Court proceedings. Before the case went to trial however, we were able to negotiate a suitable settlement and our client received £11,000 in damages.
