Road Accident Passenger Receives Over £26,000 Compensation

22nd November 2010

An electrician who suffered a badly fractured wrist in a road accident received compensation recently, in a case handled by our specialist personal injury lawyers.

Car Accident

Our client was a passenger in a friend’s car when the accident occurred. A vehicle up ahead made a right turn from the incorrect lane without warning and the traffic behind it therefore stopped suddenly. Unfortunately, our client’s friend failed to maintained an adequate braking distance and was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of them.

The airbags in the vehicle inflated and impacted with our client’s wrist, causing him to suffer a personal injury. He underwent an operation to repair a fracture using metal wires and had to wear a plaster cast for a number of weeks. During this time he required assistance with most aspects of day to day life and was unable to work or drive. As he was self-employed, this also resulted in a loss of earnings.

The claimant suffered travel anxiety for some time after the accident and has been left with long term pain, reduced strength and restricted movement in his wrist. Although he has now returned to work, his ability to work in his former capacity has been affected. He is also no longer able to play contact sports and was previously a keen rugby player.

Personal Injury Claim

The injured passenger contacted us for assistance with making a personal injury claim, as he was an innocent victim in the accident and it affected him both personally and financially.

We pursued the case on his behalf and the defendant’s insurance company admitted liability. We then provided evidence of our client’s injuries and losses and entered into negotiations to secure damages on his behalf. He received over £26,000 in respect of the pain caused by his injury and his financial losses, including his loss of earnings, travel expenses and medication costs.
