Hotel Customer Compensated for Back Injury Caused by Faulty Chair

4th October 2011

A woman was injured in an accident at a hotel when the chair she was sitting on collapsed. Our expert personal injury lawyers pursued a compensation claim on her behalf.

Personal Injury

Our client was having a meal at a hotel with family members when her chair suddenly gave way and she was thrown to the ground. Upon inspection it became clear that one of the chair legs had completely sheared away.

As a result of the accident our client suffered a back injury. There were soft tissue injuries to the lower part of her back which affected her for a number of months and she required a course of physiotherapy to treat this.

Compensation Claim Against Hotel

We acted on behalf of the injured customer in a personal injury claim against the hotel. They failed to ensure that their facilities were safe for use and this is what led to her accident. If there had been a system of inspection and maintenance in place for the chairs, the fault with the chair would have been noticed and it could have been repaired or taken out of use to avoid customer injuries.

The hotel admitted responsibility for our client’s personal injury and put forward an offer of compensation. Unfortunately the initial offer was low and did not reflect how badly she was affected, so we entered into negotiations with them to secure an increased offer. Our client received £6,500 in damages.
