Successful Compensation Claim for Football Injury

17th April 2007

During an amateur football match, a dangerous tackle caused a serious personal injury to one of the players. He appointed our specialist lawyers to assist him and made a successful claim for compensation.

Sports Injury

The claimant was taking part in a football match and passed the ball to one of his team mates. Suddenly a player on the opposing team made a very forceful tackle after the ball had been played, coming from behind and to the side where the claimant was unable to see him.

As a result of the tackle, the claimant suffered two fractures to his left leg and the impact was such that even his shin pad was cracked. The match was stopped due to the serious nature of the incident and the delayed arrival of the ambulance.

Negligent Tackle

Because the tackle was made late and high, the claimant’s case was based on the assertion that it would not be allowed as a reasonable challenge under the laws of Association Football.

Following the incident the referee did not discipline the offending player, not having witnessed the tackle, and also failed to compile a match report. Members of each team provided evidence as to their memories of the incident, however with entirely opposing versions of events.

Personal Injury Compensation Awarded

The claim for damages was successful, as the evidence put forward by our lawyers supported the facts that; the ball was played some time before the tackle was made and; the claimant’s injured leg was the supporting leg and not the one closest to the ball.

The defendant was also unable to explain how he could have caused such a serious injury had the tackle not been as described by the claimant.
