Paramedic Awarded Compensation for Injury at Work

6th October2006

Our lawyers were recently able to recover compensation for a paramedic who sustained injuries in an accident at work, leaving her unable to continue working as before.

Injured at Work

At the time of her accident, the claimant was standing at the doors of an ambulance, waiting for an air ambulance to arrive. The downdraft of the helicopter caused the doors to slam and she suffered injuries to her head, neck and shoulders.

Compensation Claim

Medical evidence showed that the claimant had an asymptomatic, pre-existing, degenerative disease of the neck, which had been accelerated by around 8 years by the accident. She also suffered depression for 18 months.

Although she managed to return to work for a short time, the client was eventually retired on grounds of ill health four years after the accident.

She was awarded compensation totalling £67,170 in respect of her injuries, financial losses and the loss of ‘congenial employment’, as she was no longer able to continue in her chosen profession.
