Man Injured in Fall From Ladder at Work Receives £90,000 Compensation

After an accident at work that will leave him with a total loss of movement in his right wrist, our lawyers were able to recover £90,000 compensation for Ian Mitchell.

Serious Workplace Accident

At the time of his accident, Mr Mitchell was working up a ladder at Condor Environmental Plc, where he worked as a fibreglass laminator.

The ladders were not on even ground, due to hardened pieces of fibreglass on the surface that had accumulated over time. They therefore fell out from underneath him, causing Mr Mitchell to fall to the ground.

He suffered severe injuries to his right wrist and ulna and has undergone several surgical procedures in an attempt to ease the pain he is suffering and repair the damage caused.

Loss of Earnings

Mr Mitchell was unable to return to his job at Condor Environmental after the accident occurred in May 2002. He has been able to secure work as a courier since then, however because of the problems with his wrist is only able to work for two hours per day.

As he now requires an operation to permanently set his wrist, Mr Mitchell will only be capable of light work for the foreseeable future. This operation will ease the pain of his injury, however will render him unable to move his wrist at all. In light of this, his care costs and loss of past and future earnings were taken into account in his compensation claim.

Mr Mitchell commented “No amount of compensation will take away the pain or bring back the full use of my arm, but it will help to ease the financial difficulties I face as a result of being unable to work”.

Employers’ Liability Claims

In Mr Mitchell’s case, his employers failed to provide him with a safe working environment and this led to his accident.

If you or someone you know has suffered a workplace accident due to the negligence of an employer, you may be entitled to claim compensation. Contact The Legal Line for specialist advice and assistance on 0800 0328511 or by completing a claim enquiry form online.
