Employee Injured by Unsafe Machinery Receives Compensation

1st November 2011

A man suffered multiple injuries when defective machinery caused him to suffer an accident at work. Our expert personal injury lawyers made a successful compensation claim on his behalf.

Lack of Safety

Our client was using a boring machine to bore a hole in a large, metal wheel at the time of his workplace accident. As the wheel spun it caught on part of the machine due to a malfunction and became dislodged. It then flew out of the machine and struck our client very forcefully.

There were guards on the machine, but these were insufficient to protect anyone who was operating it or contain the wheel.

He suffered fractured ribs and injuries to his neck, shoulder, hip, upper leg and ankle and received treatment at hospital. It was several months before our client could return to work as normal and his recovery was a lengthy process.

Injury Compensation Claim

Following the accident, the injured employee decided to look into making a personal injury claim. He appointed our lawyers to assist him and we began a case against his employer, on the basis that they did not provide safe equipment.

They admitted responsibility for the accident and made an offer of compensation. We felt that the offer was low, so negotiated an increased offer and our client received £10,000. His employer also made improvements to the machine to prevent future incidents.
