Cyclist Hit by Car Receives Compensation for Fractured Hand and Wrist

13th September 2010

A man left with a fractured wrist and hand after a road accident received compensation recently, after our specialist personal injury lawyers assisted him in a claim.

Injured in Road Accident

Our client was cycling downhill along a main road on a dry, clear day. A driver pulled out from a side road into his path to make a right turn and collided with his bicycle. This caused him to be thrown up onto the bonnet and windscreen and then over onto the bonnet of another car.

Someone at the scene called out the emergency services and our client was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was kept overnight. As a result of this cycling accident he suffered concussion, cuts and bruising to various parts of his body and fractures in his dominant hand and wrist. Our client had to take time off from work and it was approximately 4 months before he was recovered. His bicycle, helmet, gloves and clothing were also badly damaged and had to be replaced.

Personal Injury Claim

The injured cyclist appointed our lawyers, who specialise in personal injury cases, to assist him in making a claim against the driver of the car. They were responsible for the incident as they did not wait for him to pass before pulling out when he had right of way.

The driver’s insurance company admitted liability and we were able to secure an interim payment for some of our client’s expenses whilst compensation for his injuries was being negotiated. We secured a total settlement of £6,000 in damages.
