Manual Handling Accident Results in Serious Foot Injury

20th January 2009

A man who lost a toe as the result of an accident at work was awarded compensation in a successful personal injury claim handled by our specialist personal injury lawyers.

Injury at Work

Whilst working as part of a crew dismantling a stage following a show, the claimant was asked to take down a satellite that formed part of the PA system with some colleagues. This is normally done using a forklift and pulleys, and there was a truck and pulley at the site, however the crew boss instructed them to lower it manually.

Unfortunately the weight of the tower was too much for the crew to control and it fell, crushing part of our client’s foot. Although he was wearing protective clothing in the form of steel toe-capped boots, his little toe was badly injured and eventually had to be amputated. He required time off from work and was not paid during his absence, so he also suffered a loss of earnings.

Employer Liability Claim

The claimant appointed our lawyers, who are experts in workplace injury cases, to assist him in recovering compensation for the injury he sustained in this manual handling accident.

The system of work provided by his employer was unsafe and was not in accordance with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations. They admitted liability for the accident and our lawyers were able to negotiate a settlement of £10,000 damages on his behalf.
