Uneven Paving Slab Causes Employee’s Injury at Work

26th July 2011

A woman who suffered an ankle injury when she stumbled on a defective path at her workplace received compensation recently, in a personal injury claim handled by our expert lawyers.

Accident at Work

Our client was walking out of a building whilst at work, onto a path outside. As she took her first step out onto the path, she felt her foot and ankle twist over sharply due to an uneven paving slab.

Her ankle was immediately very painful and she attended hospital, where she was diagnosed with ligament damage. She had to take several months off work and required physiotherapy and acupuncture treatments, a nerve block injection and some time in a plaster cast to aid her recovery.

Claim Against Employer

The injured woman appointed our specialist personal injury lawyers to assist her in a compensation claim. She felt that her employer failed to provide her with a safe place of work and her accident could have been prevented.

We asserted that the defect, which was right outside a fire exit, was dangerous and likely to cause an accident. There were also no signs to warn people about the hazard.

The defendants admitted liability for the accident and we secured £10,000 in damages for our client after rejecting their initial, lower offer. This sum was in respect of both our client’s personal injury and also her related financial expenses, including the costs of medication and travel to appointments for treatment.
