Ferry Employee’s Fingers Crushed in Accident at Work

30th June 2011

A man employed by a ferry company lost the tips of two fingers in an accident at work caused by defective work equipment. Our specialist personal injury lawyers assisted him in recovering compensation.

Injured at Work

Our client was aboard a ferry in the course of his work at the time of the accident. The ferry was docked and he began to raise the passenger gangway. Unfortunately however, as he did so the heavy metal counterweight suddenly crashed down and crushed the fingers of his right hand. This happened because, unbeknown to our client, the gangway had been incorrectly repaired or modified shortly beforehand and was not in a safe condition.

As a result of this workplace accident, the claimant lost the tips of his index and middle fingers. He had to take time off from work because of this and also suffered a loss of earnings.

Personal Injury Claim

The injured worker decided to pursue a personal injury claim against his employer, as he felt their lack of health and safety caused his injury. He appointed our lawyers, who have extensive experience in cases involving accidents on ships and boats, to handle the matter on his behalf.

The defendants admitted liability and we provided evidence of our client’s injuries and losses. We secured a sum of £13,000 in damages on his behalf.
